Crayola’s Gone Bad

A few months ago I used an analogy with a red Crayola crayon to talk about the choice we had in curriculum.  At the time I wrote the post I apologized to Crayola saying that they had very nice crayons.  I’m here now to retract that apology, it seems that Crayola has jumped on the Common Core bandwagon.

They are part of a group called P21 — Partnership for 21st Century Skills.  This group includes Crayola, Lego Education, Apple, and Disney (among others).

Danette Clark, in her blog writes about Crayola’s role.

Crayola is writing lessons.  Crayola lessons, like other Common Core material, are designed to create, in children’s minds, a specific and biased perspective of the world — globalization over national sovereignty, interdependence over self-reliance, and social and economic equity governed by a few over social and economic freedom governed by self.

It’s discouraging that such an icon of childhood has partnered with something so destructive to children as Common Core.  Where does it end?

I guess my family will be using RoseArt crayons.
