Idaho Common Core Hearings

In 2010 Governor Butch Otter and Superintendent of Public Instruction unilaterally signed up the state for the Common Core State Standards. Before the standards were finished and without the proper consent of the legislature. You might say they overstepped their constitutional bounds.

Due to a unique set of circumstances, eight years after initial implementation, you have the opportunity to make your thoughts regarding Common Core heard at a series of public hearings to be held across the state.

Public hearings will be held at:

  • Nampa (August 19): The College of Western Idaho, Academic Building, Room 102 E
  • Twin Falls (August 21): The College of Southern Idaho, Hepworth Building, Room 108
  • Coeur d’Alene (August 22): North Idaho College’s Student Union Building, Lake Coeur d’Alene Conference Room
  • Idaho Falls (August 27): The College of Eastern Idaho Building 6 (Health Education Building), Room 150/152

All hearings run from 6 to 9:30 p.m. local time.

If you can’t make the hearing in your area:

The board will take comments through Aug. 27. You can email them to Tracie Bent, Tracie.Bent@osbe.idaho.gov, or mail them to her at the Idaho State Board of Education, 650 W. State St., P.O. Box 83702, Boise, Idaho 83702-0037.

For you assistance, here is a document with some of the objections to Common Core. Please be sure to add your own experience; the things you’ve seen in your children and grandchildren’s education that concerns you.

Please, show up. Have your voice be heard. We have a unique opportunity to change the course of history for Idaho children.
