Jim Chmelik On Common Core

Jim Chmelik is running for Lieutenant Governor.  I asked him for a statement on Common Core.

Common Core is an attempt by politicians to impose national standards on American schools. When one looks into Common Core, it becomes clear that it has no unifying “core” principle, and it will have destructive effects. The point I want to make here is that it’s only stated objective is career preparation. Modern education is treating students as factors of production rather than individuals with dreams and aspirations. It is doing nothing to tap into the creative genius of their individual talents. Given the choice of our children earning a lot of money and being void of the ideas of right and wrong or struggling economically and being able to discern truth, who would choose the former. Common core is not a value-laden education, and I stand firmly opposed.
