Representative Lynn Luker is introducing House Concurrent Resolution 3 (HCR 3) in front of the House Education Committee tomorrow morning at 9am. This resolution calls for an audit of the states data collecting mechanisms. The title reads:

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND AUTHORIZING THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO UNDERTAKE AND COMPLETE A STUDY OF THE STATE’S ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY AND POSTSECONDARY LONGITUDINAL DATA SYSTEMS.

This resolution simply asks a few questions about our state data systems:

(1) which data points are necessary for tracking student academic progress;

(2) which data points must be collected and reported at the aggregate level;

(3) which data points should be personally identifiable and why;

(4) the extent to which federal funding is contingent upon the collection and reporting of student data to the federal government and the cost to the state of declining such funding; and

It then asks to set up a council to audit our SLDS. Pretty simple really. Let’s just find out what’s really happening to our student’s data.

Please take a moment today to email the House Education Committee in support of

Better yet, come tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. to show support. Room EW41
